A window to the world | We're telling you

Sister Margarita Trejo Rodrƭguez is a missionary from the San JosƩ de Papalotla Monastery in the State of Mexico.
In this interview, Sister Margarita shares her experience and mission in Kenya, where she arrived in October 2012: I want to thank God and my community for giving me the opportunity to come to this long-desired mission.
It has not been easy, but it is a gift from God to my life, to the community and to the Order.

Prayer, the center of the mission

As Sister Margarita points out, the main objective of the mission in Kenya is to support the diocese through prayer : Here we are where the Church needs us and we are very happy.

Among the sisters with whom it shares a mission are four Mexican sisters: two of us are from the same monastery and of the other two sisters, one is from Puebla and the other from Tlaxcala.
In addition, the monastery has been blessed with other international vocations: we have a novice sister who comes from Uganda, and now there is an aspirant.

There are many religions but we are loved and respected.”

Interreligious coexistence is an essential part of the community: there are many religions but we are loved and respected, says Sister Margarita.
Bishop Harrington, who requested the presence of the community, made it clear that the monastery would be dedicated to praying for the diocese and the whole world: when we leave to go to the doctor or for other matters we are not disturbed, people see us with great affection.

“We see miracles, things we thought were impossible and now they are reality.”

Mission life presents its challenges, but Sister Margarita and her community have seen miracles and the power of Divine Providence in their daily mission. Life is hard, but God’s grace is bringing them here, she says.
Despite the difficulties, the enthusiasm does not fade: “Sometimes we like to complain, but the Lord here, where we are in the desert, we see miracles, things we thought were impossible and now they are reality.

Many visitors come to the mission and are inspired by their surroundings. Some people who come to support us say: ‘I will never come back’, simply because of the place, which looks very poor… but we are very happy and grateful to God and to the Order, concludes Sister Margarita, showing the unwavering spirit of a community committed to its mission of faith.
