JOPAR 2024: “Leading in a changing world”.

From July 24 to 28, the Augustinian Recollect Colleges of Brazil celebrated the Jornada PedagĆ³gica (JOPAR), an event that brought together educators from all over the country to share learning and reflections.
The event was held under the theme “Aspire, conquer, inspire. From small to big”.
The day focused on preparing education professionals to lead in an ever-changing world.
To this end, the academic and emotional development of students was addressed.

One of the most important aspects was the evaluation of the DICAR (Dictionary of Competencies for educational centers of the EDUCAR Network).
This work highlighted the importance of establishing standards for competencies, knowledge and skills.
The importance of going beyond “teaching how to read maps” to “teaching how to use the compass” in an environment characterized by rapid change was also stressed.
Through group dynamics, fundamental values such as good treatment, respect for differences, empathy, solidarity, humility and the capacity for continuous learning were reinforced.

“Aspire, conquer, inspire. From small to big.”

The principal of the Santo Agostinho School of Novo Leblon (CSA-NL), Fr. NicolasThe Secretary of the Province, St. Thomas of Villanova, and the Secretary of the Province, St. Thomas of Villanova, Fr. Juan ManuelThey offered different perspectives on the trajectory of St. Augustine in education, from his book“Hortensius” to “The City of God“, and encouraged the participants to follow his example.

Likewise, attendees participated in thematic workshops that addressed issues such as artificial intelligence and artificial intelligencesoft skills, self-regulation, conflict mediation and positive discipline.
These tools led to a deep reflection on the need to prepare educators to lead effectively in an evolving world.

The Culture of Good Treatment was a central theme of the day. Fr. Antonio CarrĆ³nThe Brazilian psychoanalyst, who came from Rome, emphasized the importance of establishing relationships based on respect and empathy, and highlighted the crucial role played by schools in the protection of minors.
Brazilian psychoanalyst CĆ©sar Ibraim spoke about the importance of setting limits, conflict mediation and the hierarchy of power, and stressed the need to develop essential socioemotional skills for effective conflict resolution.

Challenges in Education

A conference on the General Data Protection Act (LGPD) and the right to privacy underscored the need to teach students to avoid excessive exposure.
Educators also participated in talks on classroom misbehavior, prevention of risky situations, and improving teacher-student relationships.
Discussions dealt with connections, empathy and good treatment, and proposed the creation of safe spaces and the improvement of relationships within the educational community.

The event also addressed the importance of meeting the new demands and needs of students.
The Dr. Marta RelvasResearcher on Neuroscience Applied to Cognitive and Emotional Learning, presented the conference “What is this brain that came to school?”, in which she presented neuroscience techniques to promote cognitive and emotional growth.

The 45th anniversary of the Santo Agostinho School of Novo Leblon was also celebrated during this meeting, which gave the participants the opportunity to share family moments and to share together such a significant event.

ARCORESthe social arm of the Order, had an outstanding participation in the day, in which it emphasized the need to increase the spiritual formation of the students and the implementation of values to give meaning to life.

On the other hand, a round table was held on “The early stimulation of Multiple Intelligences – Pyramid of Learning”.
The Augustinian Recollects Institutional Educational Project (PEI) and the Augustinian Pedagogical Bases were discussed.
These documents propose to educate the mind and the heart in an integral way and to make the student the protagonist of the educational process.
The pyramid, which had been previously presented at the VII EDUCAR in Guatemala, was used to help concretize these concepts.

Fr. Javier Tello, Prior Provincial of the Province of St. Thomas of Villanova, concluded the event with a moving speech on love.

The JOPAR was an event marked by deep reflections and significant learnings and involved the strengthening of the Augustinian educational community.
It prepared educators to face the information age, the valuing of knowledge, technology, the speed of change and the vital role that the Order’s schools must play in this changing scenario.
