The community of the Augustinian Recollects in the central Elvira Street of Granada (known as the community of Hospitalicos) dressed up last November 30 to celebrate a historic and deeply moving event: the solemn profession of Fr. Andrés Bustos Maturana in the Order of Augustinian Recollects at the age of 90. This event brought together the Recollect communities of Granada, Monachil and Motril, as well as the Augustinian Recollect Sisters from various communities, together with the Sisters of St. James. In addition, the secular fraternities and numerous devotees of the church of Corpus Christi (Hospitalicos) joined in. Fr. Alfredo Arce, Prior of the Community, noted that “the church was full, brimming with expectation and joy”.
The celebration began at 7:00 p.m., when the cross led the procession of priests accompanying Friar Andrés. The Eucharist was presided over by the Vicar of the Province of St. Thomas of Villanova in Spain, Friar José María Sánchez Martín, and was enriched by the sublime music of the professed friars of the formation house of Monachil, whose voices and instruments filled the church with beauty and harmony.
“The temple was packed, brimming with expectation and joy.”
The highlight of the celebration was the rite of solemn profession. Fr. Andrés, much loved by friars and faithful, read his formula of profession with a firm and clear voice, an act that was sealed with his signature, that of the Vicar and that of the Prior of the Community, Friar Alfredo Arce, together with Friar Bruno D’Andrea, President of the Secretariat of Formation of the Province of St. Thomas of Villanova. After this emotional moment, the religious embraced Fr. Andrés as a sign of welcome and fraternity, and the joy was expressed with a great applause that marked the moment.
The celebration concluded with an agape in the halls and inner courtyard of the house, where those present shared pleasant conversations, celebrating the grace of God manifested in Friar Andrés.
“This journey culminated in his recent solemn profession, a testimony that God continues to call all ages to work in his vineyard.”
