From September 22 to October 14, Rome will host twenty-four young religious of the Order. Coming from the four provinces, they are beginning an experience of ongoing formation called “Pilgrims of Desireunder the coordination of Friar Francisco Javier Monroy.
A path to the heart
The proposal, included in the Ongoing Formation Plan 2025-2028 with the motto “Make me remember you”, does not seek an academic update, but something more profound: to prepare the heart for God to act.
“Ongoing formation are two sacred words for consecrated life. It is not optional, it is an essential part of the vocational journey”, Javier stressed in his opening homily.
The program is structured in three weeks: the first focused on looking inward, the second on how the charism energizes relationships and mission, and the third on the key of the Jubilee, with a community workshop to dream together. There will also be a spiritual retreat and Augustinian pilgrimages to Cascia, Tolentino and Genazzano.
Looking at desire, rediscovering what is essential
“Ongoing formation is always returning to the center of the person”, Friar Javier recalled.Friar Xavier recalled. He invited the young people to ask themselves: “Where is my heart? Where is my desire going?”. And he warned that it is not enough to do “many ecclesiastical things“: the decisive thing is to let God transform the heart.
In this spirit, religious from Mexico, Colombia, the Philippines, Brazil, Cuba, Peru, Venezuela, Vietnam, Guatemala and Spain have come together to stop the inertia of their tasks and discern together the direction of their vocation.
A pulse of family and mission
The stage is meant to embody Augustinian spirituality: to look within to find God and to share faith in community. As the General Councilor reminded us, “You are lamps, are you giving light, or are you hiding it with false humility or spiritual pride?
This experience is a sign of hope for the Order: to renew the enthusiasm and strengthen the apostolic dedication of those in the first years of consecrated life. Because, as the official note pointed out:
“Ongoing formation is not an add-on, but the very pulse of consecrated life”.
