From October 13-17, the General Curia of the Augustinian Recollects in Rome hosted the meeting of the Coordinating Team of the Secular Augustinian Recollect Fraternities (FSAR), with lay and religious representatives from all over the world. The meeting marked a milestone in the journey of communion, mission and renewal of the Order’s secular fraternities.
International communion and mission meeting
For five days, the participants worked intensely on the new statutes of the Secular Augustinian Recollect Fraternity, reflected on the current challenges and shared fraternal experiences of the different provinces. Tatiana Moreno (Colombia), Hernan Ferrer (Venezuela), Maricela Valles (Spain), Edwin Ruiz (Philippines), Eduarda Dadooran Artus (Brazil), Friar Ronel Gealon (Philippines), Friar Enrique Arenas (Colombia) and Friar Julio Amezua (Spain) were part of this international team committed to strengthening the FSAR.
One of the most outstanding fruits of the meeting was the updating and open discussion of the new statutes. “There were no reservations, it was an open dialogue,” noted the attendees, who recognized that these texts respond better to the realities of fraternities around the world.
A shared experience of faith and conversion
The meeting was not only administrative or formative. It was an experiential experience, deeply spiritual. “It is to understand that the charismatic life of the fraternities is strong if it is understood as a process of faith and constant conversion,” said one of the participants.
The work, prayer and shared life helped the coordinators to feel more alive the communion with the Order and the Augustinian Recollect charism. “It was a wonderful experience to feel connected with my brothers and sisters in this part of the world through this international gathering,” said Edwin Ruiz, from the Philippines. “This event reminded me how powerful unity can be when people from different parts of the world come together with faith and purpose.”
A hopeful future for the fraternities
The Order of Augustinian Recollects, through this initiative, continues to bet on a living secularity, committed and deeply rooted in the Augustinian charism. This encounter has been a firm step towards that “hopeful future” of which all the participants spoke: a future in which the Secular Fraternity will be more and more a significant presence in the Church and the world.
