The Order has some of its roots in Colombia where the seeds of the Recollection sprouted in 1604 in the shade of the Virgin of Candlemas (Virgen de Candelaria). It was the fruit of a Provincial council meeting that took place on 29th of June 1604 which accepted the donation of the hermitage La Candelaria, in Ráquira (Boyacá) for those religious who desired to follow a stricter observance.
