The Augustinian Recollects, a religious Order present in the Monastery of Yuso, are dedicated to prayer, study, looking after the pastoral needs of the villages in the valley. They also do research in the library and archives, look after visitors and care for the sick and elderly friars besides promoting projects of solidarity.
This agreement envisages a total grant of 120,000 euros given by the Foundation Iberdrola. The principal aim of this donation is to furnish the Monastery of Yuso with an advanced lighting system, which takes into consideration the monumental character of this outstanding building and the richness of its interior.
The three signatories of the agreement maintain a fruitful cooperation that began back in 2003 with the restoration of the ironwork around the High Altar of Yuso and the subsequent restoration of the Old Sacristy and the Christ Chapel for the new exhibition rooms. The signing of this agreement highlights yet again the commitment of “Fundacion Iberdrola” to the culture and history of La Rioja (Spain).
The Project will give the church a lighting system to highlight the magnificent spaces of the building, at the same time as offering subtle lighting to the unique parts of the church and its furnishings. The Church of the Monasterio de Yuso has three naves. Over the centuries the side naves have been transformed into chapels. The project will fit the church building with a system that will light up chosen areas and have a control panel to regulate the lights and their intensity.
