In the days leading up to WYD 2023 in Lisbon, an Recollect Augustinian Youth Synod and a world meeting of RAY will be held in Salamanca (Spain).
As in the past, the Augustinian Recollects will respond to the call of Pope Francis for the World Youth Day 2023. The Augustinian Recollect Youth will be present, together with all the Catholic youth, in Lisbon to participate in the WYD. In the framework of this event, the Augustinian Recollect Youth will celebrate two important events in the previous days. In the Augustinian University Residence of Salamanca (Spain), the first Augustinian Recollect Youth Synod and the V Augustinian Recollect Youth Day will take place from July 20 to August 6, gathering young people from all over the world around the Augustinian Recollect charism.
The Order of Augustinian Recollects wanted to make the young people the protagonists during these days, who will have the opportunity to share their faith and reflect on their reality. In the first place, through the JAR Synod, an opportunity to promote the JAR itinerary, evaluate and reaffirm the co-responsibility of religious and youth in the evangelizing mission of the Church. It is in tune with the synodal process that the Church is living, recalling the words of Pope Francis to the Augustinian Recollects in March 2022: “Have you prepared people who follow your spirituality which is a gift of God to carry it forward?”. The JAR Synod will be held from Friday, July 21 to Wednesday, July 26 in Salamanca. The criteria for the election of the youth will be decided at a later date.
In the following days the V JMJAR will be held, also in Salamanca. The meeting will be attended by the active members of the RAY and will take place from Friday, July 28 to Monday, July 31. For the organization of the event, a commission has been organized with religious and young people from Argentina, Spain, Philippines, Mexico, Panama and Venezuela. During the previous months, this commission will prepare materials for reflection and prayer in preparation for the meeting. Later, from August 2 to 6, the young people will participate in person at WYD in Lisbon.
