Inauguration of the “Lar Santa Monica” in Fortaleza meant to shelter minors who are victims of sexual exploitation

This center will serve as shelter for young girls or adult victims of commercial sexual abuse or exploitation or are in serious risk of falling into it. Although it still lacks many details to complete the interior of the house, generally it already has the basic conditions to live in.

The inauguration started with the celebration of the Eucharist and with a solemn blessing of the house, presided by the administrator of the social project, Jose Alberto Moreno, an Augustinian Recollect.

Numerous Attendance

Together with the Augustinian Recollects and other religious in the area, also present were the members of the Secular Augustinian Recollect fraternity of St. Rita, who help greatly in the project, the seminarians and representatives of all entities and friends of the Spiritual Condominium Uirapuru (CEU), who now takes charge of the second phase of the house of refuge.

Also in attendance were the parishioners of Barra do Ceara, representatives of institutions who work against social abuse of minors and various representatives of social civil organizations. Among them was the Association of the Spaniards of Ceara and personnel of the Honorary Consulate of the Kingdom of Spain in Fortaleza.

Words of thanks

Alberto Moreno first expressed his gratitude to the Lord for having called the Augustinian Recollects to carry on the mission. He thanked those present for their collaboration and invited everyone to intensify their help and participation.

Taking into consideration the liturgical feast, he gave emphasis on the life of St. Monica as untiring, decisive and loving mother in the education of St. Augustine. He explained, “She has been the source of inspiration in the rescue and education of the minors who live in this first shelter, the first among the total of nine houses projected”.

The administrator of the project pointed out that this work “is a commitment of the Province of St. Nicholas of Tolentine of the Augustinian Recollects and of all the Augustinian Recollect family in Fortaleza.

The Eucharist was well animated with Augustinian songs interpreted by the Camillian Missionaries Mary Mother of Life. The celebration continued in the House of Spirituality of the Sisters of Dorothy of CEU, with cocktails and a prolonged moment for get together and joy.
