After the procession of the World Youth Day Cross – Madrid 2011, the Convent of the Augustinian Recollect Sisters, located in the heart of Madrid, hosted the central reception of the Cross for the Vicariate III of the Archdiocese of Madrid.
The prelature of San Ginés has been the first to receive this Cross that will visit every Spanish diocese with the goal of preparing young people around the world to meet Pope Benedict XVI in the capital of the country in the summer of 2011.
The Archbishop of Madrid, Cardinal Antonio Maria Rouco, explained in his speech the objective of this pilgrimage, which made its first stop in the Augustinian Recollect Monastery of the Incarnation: "We start today the journey of the preparation of World Youth Day of 2011, which, with the benevolent and fatherly decision of the Holy Father, will be held, God willing, in Madrid in the third week of August of 2011.
The Archbishop of Madrid, Cardinal Antonio Maria Rouco, explained in his speech the objective of this pilgrimage. We will live it as a pilgrimage presided by the glorious Cross of Jesus Christ, accompanied by the image of his Blessed Mother, the Virgin Mary, Mother of God and our Mother, throughout our Archdiocese of Madrid, from the sister dioceses of Alcalá and Getafe, from all the Diocese of Spain.
Our purpose is very clear, simple and daring: we want to reach the end of our journey as pilgrims who have sought and found Christ crucified: "scandal to the Jews, stupidity to the gentiles, but to those who are called… a Messiah who is the strength of God and the wisdom of God.”
