The Augustinian Recollects see with optimism the result of the works in the Church of the Monastery of Yuso

This is a work of great importance and the projected budget has reached 4.6 million Euros coming from the San Millan Foundation and Caja Madrid Foundation (2 million each), and from the Order of Augustinian (600,000 Euros). The central dome, the stone cross and the roofs have been restored by the generosity of an anonymous donor.

The recovery in the interior of the Church and the restoration of the reredos are currently being undertaken.

Interior

The company "Comsa" has made an excavation of the floor and has conducted the mandatory archeological studies. They have already completed the stonework on the columns that support the Church and now they are placing a new stone pavement. At the same time, they are now restoring the lateral domes with plaster, and the painting of the interior walls. This part of the work is moving in advance. We could say that they have already finished more than half of the Church.

Altarpieces

"In situ" is the name of the company charged of the restoration work of the mural paintings, altarpieces and church furniture including the upper and lower choir stalls. This work is also moving in advance. With the exception of the main altarpiece, the rest has already been restored. They are currently working on the recovery and treatment of the paintings in the chapel of St. Augustine.

Despite the scaffolding that covers part of the walls and the paper that hides from view all the areas that have already been restored, the church presents an aspect of novelty and expectation. In some areas, one can guess what within few months will this so important part of the monastery be, which has not been subjected to any intervention before due to a high cost of restoration.
