Francis Quinn, the Ordinary of the diocese of Sacramento when Gallegos died, celebrated the mass in the cathedral with the body present. An over night wake was held in the same cathedral. On the following morning the body was brought to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe where it was received by Msgr. William Weigand, retired bishop of Sacramento. After the mass the coffin was placed at the chapel of the Blessed Sacrament where it remained until Saturday morning. A great number of faithful came to show their respect, ask for his intercession and pray for his canonization.
