Tere García: “Catholic children have the right to know the truth”

According to the author, certain sectors of society have committed a crime against the laws of God, of life and of nature. What is worse, she said, is that it is done in front of children, who as a result form a false vision of life.

Q. – Tere, from what I have heard, you must have been deeply saddened by this kind of news and I suppose that was what inspired you to caution the children against the snares of media communication.
A. – Yes. Through this book, I decided as a journalist to warn the children about these problems and thus I take advantage of the occasion to transmit to them the values of truth, happiness, love and liberty.

I treat in a forthright way the topics on life, heterosexual marriage, and true love as opposed to false love.

I also speak about truth and falsehood; about talking and communicating, about the manipulation done by some mass media so that the children nine years old and above are immunized from the things that they hear and see, and remain faithful to the faith in Jesus Christ.

Q. – How has society gotten so degraded that it wants to destroy the family through abortion, the union of same sex partners, and the adoption of minors on the part of these partners?
A. – Saint Augustine saw it clearly: "Accordingly, two cities have been formed by two loves: the earthly by the love of self, even to the contempt of God; the heavenly by the love of God, even to the contempt of self" (City of God 14,28).

At present we reside in the earthly city, with the contempt of God through the exaltation of love of self or egoism, which leads to death. I would also say we are despising the human being, and so the human being loses self-confidence and opts for death.

Therefore, we need to revive hope; this is the vocation of all Catholics. I wrote that book as a Catholic, since Catholic children have the right to know the truth and to live as their hearts think and feel, where Jesus Christ dwells.

Children must understand from an attitude of mercy what is happening in postmodern times and what their hearts are saying, and assimilate it in such a way that they are faithful to what their hearts ask and that they live the word of God.

This book was already published by the Order of Augustinian Recollects of the Province of Saint Nicholas of Tolentine, Vicariate of Mexico and Costa Rica.
Q. – Tere, why such extremes of anti-naturality?
A. – What is happening: abortion, euthanasia, contraceptives, homosexual marriages; all these topics point to a tremendous pride that has reached absurd limits.

Q- When will this book go on sale?
A. -This book was already published by the Order of Augustinian Recollects of the Province of Saint Nicholas of Tolentine, Vicariate of Mexico and Costa Rica. The prologue was written by Fr. Carlos C. González, Vicar for Mexico and Costa Rica. The book is available for distribution and sale at 20 pesos a copy so that all the children of all parishes in the country could buy it. It is a useful material for children nine years old and above.

The journalist Tere García ended by saying that writing “Difficult topics for children nine years old and above” was doubtless a challenge, since, as she said, she received the grace of being able to write in a simple language accessible to children and explain the topics in a manner that does not harm them. May these topics help them live in truth and to be truly happy.
