There will be thirty-nine Chapter participants. They are the prior general and the six councilors, eight priors provincial, another eight delegates elected by the provincial chapters, twelve delegates directly chosen by the priest religious and six by brother religious.
St. Paul’s words found in the letter to Timothy, “Our hope is in the living God”, serve as the theme of the Chapter in Monachil 2010. The General Council, after having studied all the proposals sent by the religious from all over the world, approved, during its June 22 session, the list of questions to be treated during the Chapter. Two of the ten topics will be given emphasis, the restructuring of the Order and the revision of the Constitutions. Other topics to be discussed include the familiar problems that are related to: the charismatic identity, the youth and promotion of vocations, initial formation and the possibility having a common novitiate, the apostolate from the community, missions, the Augustinian Recollect family and governance and other services of the Order.
The General Chapter expresses the communion of all the religious and is a sign of unity in charity. It is the task of the Chapter to examine the state of the Order and the conduct of the general government within the last six years, to foster unity and collaboration of all the religious and of the eight provinces for the common good, defend the patrimony of the Order and choose the Prior General as well as the six members of the Council.
