Haren Alde will fight children’s malnutrition in the Andes with a better kitchens project

This donation will profit some 1.500 families in Peruvian region of Cajamarca in the province of Chota. The objective of this project: Better economy and get the basic services to more homes.

Emilio del Rio, one of La Rioja’s government counsel, had a press conference together with Augustinian Recollect bishops of Chota and Cajamarca, Fortunato Pablo Urcey and Carmelo Martinez, to inform about the projects.

The president of Haren Alde, Manuel Fernández, was also present.

The first project will benefit eight communities in the province of Chota. Its objective is to offer better living conditions for more than 1.500 families offering workshops that will help productivity through better organization, leadership and cooperation.

The second project is called “Gender Promotion in the Chota Andes” and this will promote the construction of better kitchens to fight malnutrition. Today, forest waste and excrements are used in the traditional kitchens.

Since 1995, the government of La Rioja has destined 2.4 million euros to the region of Cajamarca.

Carmelo Martinez, bishop of Cajamarca and native of La Rioja, mentioned the importance of these donations that have been used to bring water to the communities of this region. The bishop of Chota, Fortunato Pablo, also mentioned that part of this donation will go to the construction of a pavilion for formation activities.
