In 2011, Haren Alde has accomplished eleven development projects in Sierra Leone, Costa Rica, Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Dominican Republic and Panama, which amounted to 437,000.00 euros, financed together with other ten different institutions. This NGO reached a total of 1,833 sponsorship programs in Argentina, Brazil, China, Colombia, Ecuador, Philippines, Guatemala, Panama, Peru, Dominican Republic, Sierra Leone and Venezuela. The sponsors allotted 258,770 euros to finance school materials, medicines, basic family baskets, activities and other diverse programs dedicated to minors.
As for the administration of Haren Alde, the year 2011 has had a notable reinforcement of the team in-charge, while adapting and launching new tools of information management.
In the report of the 2011 activities, prepared by the NGO president, the Augustinian Recollect Manuel Fernandez, and by the director German Contreras, the year 2011 was described as a difficult year due to constraints imposed by the international financial crisis. But the collaborations received are specially valued as well, since this time, “one has given not what he had in excess, but what he truly had: hours of work, financial assistance, talents, leisure time or lifetime savings” for the benefit of those who have less.
NGO of the Order
The World Youth Day in Madrid was one of the most noteworthy moments for the NGO, since Haren Alde supported the gathering of 600 Augustinian Recollect youth from eleven countries. The report says, “With them, we reaffirm that the future of the world contemplates on solidarity as a choice towards development.” Likewise, it highlighted the inauguration of its new offices in Castilla Leon, the advocacy of the territorial delegation of Madrid that began in autumn, or, within the international level, the growth of Haren Alde Brazil with its headquarters in Rio de Janeiro or of Haren Alde Chota in Peru.
Lastly, Haren Alde has been present in diverse meetings with the General Council and formation encounters of the religious, as well as in many Augustinian Recollect communities in Spain and Brazil as well.
