This General Secretariat represents almost half of the Augustinian Recollects in the whole world, since there are more than 500 religious working in almost 200 ministries of the Order.
In line with the objective of the last General Chapter, the Secretariat has dedicated one week to determine the way to be followed by all the parishes and missions of the Augustinian Recollects. It is no other than the new evangelization in which that Church is involved.
Re-appropriation of the Christian identity
Jesús Ángel Barreda, a Dominican professor of the Urbaniana University in Rome, gave them an orientation on the New Evangelization. Barreda made them realize the existing “religious illiteracy” and how the novelty of evangelization ought to be sought in the re-appropriation of the Christian identity, which is considered lost in many parts of the world.
The rest of the days were spent in working on the situation of the Recollect parishes and missions based on the data furnished by the participants. The ordinances of the last General Chapter, and the implementation of some concrete and common directives in the ministries of the Order were likewise studied.
