The friars of the typhoon-affected zone visit their families and distribute the first 20.000 Euros of solidarity aid

The office of the Provincial Econome has sent PHP (Philippine pesos )100,000 (Eur 1,700) for the typhoon victims and are processing the donation of USD 10,000 dollars (Eur 7,500) from the General Curia in Rome. The Provincial Council has approved an additional calamity fund of PHP 350,000 (Euros 6,000). Families of religious affected by the typhoon will be given PHP 20,000 pesos (Euros 350). A financial aid of PHP 100,000 (Euros 1,700) has also been collected for the Augustinian Recollect Sisters’ communities in Leyte Province and Bantayan island, Cebu.

From the provincial curia in Quezon City the appeal has been reiterated to all the Augustinian Recollect communities in the Islands to continue collecting food (rice, pasta and sardines), clothes and medicines for the typhoon victims. It is advised that the relief goods be sent to the nearest affected area or directly to Leyte, where the sending is free of charge. The news about the families and relatives of Augustinian Recollect friars in the zone have, happily, reported no deaths.

Frs. Leander Barrot and Renie Villalino are on their way to Tacloban to visit and assist the families of the religious – including their very own. They are also tasked to establish communications and to gather information in view of planning the distribution of the solidarity aid. They have brought with them some medicines and Philippine pesos donated by the Province and the Order.

Fr. Arian Josef Ocheda has arrived in his native province of Antique (Panay Island) and has informed that his family is fine.

Relief operations

On 10 November, we were immediately able to assist the typhoon victims in north Negros, distributing 280 bags of rice and sardines in Cadiz City and 100 bags in the parish of Old Escalante.

The Commission on Social and Ecological Concerns – Recoletos is going to conduct relief operations for the earthquake victims in Bohol island on 14 November. Throughout the entire week, it will send aid to northern Cebu, especially the island of Bantayan, as well as the affected areas in Panay island and in Busuanga island, in Palawan.

On 16 November, the University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos in Bacolod has scheduled the distribution of 2,000 bags of relief goods in the cities of Cadiz and Sagay and the town of Escalante (Negros).
