Augustinian Recollect Antonio Aransay denounces drug trafficking in the Chachapoyas Region

The social problems attacking society in general and the city of Chachapoyas were the key elements that drove Aransay in his message of morality and responsibility. Issues such as misuse of money, drugs, and drug trafficking were criticized as the “factors that distort man”.

The Augustinian Recollect referred to drug trafficking as a problem in all societies: “For some, entering the world of drugs is an easy way to make money, even though it leads to drug trafficking and death. In Chachapoyas, money diffuses with amazing ease.” Aransay denounced the “market of death, of merchants of death.”

His speech ended with a quote from Pope Francis: “The plague of drug trafficking which encourages violence, and sows pain and death, requires an act of courage by society as a whole”.

Neoliberal System

Aransay began his speech denouncing the current economic system, which he described as “uncontrollable and materialistic.” According to him, “humanity is caught by an economic financial system basically generated by neoliberal capitalism. That system is objectively inhuman. That system is basically fed by the insatiable desire for wealth.

He also warned that this threatens the economy’s responsibility for the common good. “The system corrupts the economy by making the accumulation of wealth in the hands of a powerful minority its purpose, not the production of goods and services necessary for the common good of the people. The system has its own logic. It is a logic that ignores the common good of society, doesn’t tolerate any control or regulation that might limit its greed, promotes relentless competition, eliminates possibilities of increasingly necessary cooperation and makes it impossible to lay the ethical or political foundations of any global governance project”.
