Solidarity of Augustinian Recollect Reaches Philippines

The organization HEARTanonymous accompanied by Fr. Fidel Hernandez and Deacon Ulises Feliciano, from the Province of St. Augustine of the Order of Augustinian Recollects visited the island of Mambacayao, on the coast of Tañon Estrecho, to distribute school supplies to the children.

Devastated by Typhoon Yolanda

The two religious toured on May 27 this community which had been destroyed by Typhoon Yolanda. While they were there, they distributed the aid raised by the Augustinian Recollect parish in Oxnard, California, Mary Star of the Sea. Fr. Fidel Hernandez had organized that fund raising campaign in the United States with the coordination of Charleen Morla, Sonia Armedilla, and Grace Tuazon.

Delivery of Ten Computers

They delivered ten computers to the Augustinian Recollect Sisters’ school in Alangalang, Leyte. The computers were the fruit of the commitment achieved on the occasion of the visit of Fr. Miguel Miro, Prior General of the Order of Augustinian Recollects, HEARTanonymous.org, and USJ-R INFECOP. They had been donated by the local Holy Trinity University. On June 1, coinciding with Fr. Jose Teodulfo Jadulco’s Mass of Thanksgiving, Augustinian Recollect Fr. Roland Cepe accepted the computers for the Holy Trinity College computer lab.

Our Lady of Peace and Safe Journey Chapel on the island of Mambacayao which had been severely damaged by Typhoon Yolanda was completely rebuilt in time to be blessed by Fr. Noi Buenacosa from the Christian community in Purok Balhinbalhin, Tiglawigan (Cadiz City).

The HEARTanonymous.org carpenter team also presented the community with ten new homes which they had built and three new fishing boats, fruit of their praiseworthy work in solidarity with the typhoon victims. The homes and fishing boats were the fruit of many anonymous volunteers working together so that assistance could reach those most in need.
