Mission of Marajó

The Mission of Marajó in the Amazonian basin of Brazil, concretely at the mouth of the colossal Amazon River, is where the Province of Saint Thomas – continuing a long history of evangelization – gives the best of herself to the building of the Kingdom of Heaven in the biggest river island in the world. Pope Pious XI created by motu proprio, Romanus Pontifiex, the Prelature of Marajó on the 14th of April 1928. Actually Marajó has an approximate population 310,000 inhabitants and a territorial extension of approximately 80,000 square kilometers.
