Nicholas Shi, the last Augustinian Recollect bishop in China

It was Bishop Shi who, decades after the last foreign missionaries left China, with his authority and prestige, restored religious life in his diocese, revitalized the faith of the people with evangelical zeal and reestablished relationships between the Catholic Church and the civil authorities of the diocese.
