Pedagogical pastoral objective 2017 for schools

In accordance with the educational-pastoral plan for 2015-2020, during this third year, we focus our activities on the importance of Truth, one the fundamental values of the spirituality of the Augustinian pedagogy, defined in the Constitutions and in the Institutional Education Project of the Order. 1.

MOTTO: In the plan for 2015-2020 we decided to study together the Augustinian Values and the Beatitudes; for the year 2017, to the Augustinian value of Truth we join, putting it as motto, the following beatitude: “Blessed are those who mourn because they will be consoled”.

MOTIVATION: Why did we choose this Beatitude in the year of the Truth? This Augustinian value speaks to us of the possibility of discovering the Truth in the interior of man that honors him as the image of God. On the other hand, this Beatitude tells us that in God we find consolation, because He heals our most profound pains; He deeply touches the Truth about ourselves.

AUGUSTINIAN VALUE: Truth. «The voice of the truth does not keep silent; the lips do not move, but it yells to the heart» (St. Augustine, uera rel. 32, 79). In the face of the challenge of relativism, faith and reason make possible the encounter of Truth in the interior of a person that dignifies him/her as image of God. Truth is expressed through authenticity, honesty, humility and sincerity.

POSTER: The poster design in English, Spanish and Portugues is availaible HERE.

BIBLICAL ICON: We propose two icons: that of Sicar (Jn 4:5-42), when Jesus meets the Samaritan woman and confronts her with herself, and Tabor (Lc 9:28-36), where the apostles contemplate the splendor of Truth, Jesus, the Beloved Son, whom to listen, and who goes to Jerusalem to offer His life. 6. AUGUSTINIAN ICONS: a. AUGUSTINIAN LOCALITY: Ostia (in the ecstasy at Ostia, St. Augustine and his mother St. Monica contemplate together the Truth). b. AUGUSTINIAN TEXTS: Texts of St. Augustine about the Truth (see attached document). c. AUGUSTINIAN SAINT: St. Monica (for the ecstasy at Ostia and for being a constant witness of the Truth during her long pilgrimage in search for her son Augustine). It is important to use all these elements both in pastoral work and in education. It would be very important to train our teachers and pastoral workers on the meaning of freedom in the Augustinian tradition; for this purpose, some documents will be provided later.
