Benedict XVI has left for the Father’s house

The Pope Emeritus passed away this Saturday, December 31, 2022, at 9:34 a.m., at the Mater Ecclesiae Monastery in the Vatican.

Benedict XVI has returned to the Father’s House. The Vatican Press Office announced a few minutes ago that the death occurred at 9:34 a.m., at the residence of the Vatican’s Mater Ecclesiae Monastery, which the 95-year-old Pope Emeritus had chosen as his residence after resigning from the Petrine ministry in 2013.

“It is with regret that I announce that Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI passed away today at 9:34 a.m. at the Vatican’s Mater Ecclesiae Monastery. Further information will be provided as soon as possible,” reads the press release from the Director of the Holy See Press Office, Matteo Bruni, released this morning.
