Olga Lucia Perez, new Superior General of the MARs

The Colombian religious was elected in the XIII General Chapter of the Congregation, celebrated in Monteagudo (Spain).

The Augustinian Recollect Missionary Sisters have a new Superior General. Sister Olga Lucia Perez Rodriguez, a native of Colombia, has been elected superior of the Congregation by the religious participating in the XIII General Chapter, celebrated since July 16 in Monteagudo (Navarra, Spain).

The General Chapter of the Augustinian Recollect Missionary Nuns was celebrated under the theme “Free and available to announce the Kingdom”. Sisters from different geographical areas where the Congregation is present gathered in the Convent of Monteagudo (Navarra) to decide their present and future. On August 5, the religious elected their new Superior General after an invocation to the Holy Spirit.

Olga Lucía Pérez replaces Sister Nieves María Castro Pertíñez, who served as superior general from 2017 until this General Chapter. Until now, the new superior general exercised the duties of vicar and secretary general. Likewise, the new general council has been formed by Sister Rosario Fernández, as first vicar councilor and secretary; as second councilor, Sister Marlene Valani; third councilor, Sister Myrian Neira; fourth councilor and administrator, Sister Ofir Muñoz; and fifth councilor, Sister Luisa Ortiz. Olga Lucia Perez has a degree in religious sciences, specializing in education and family counseling, and in educational evaluation. Between 1991 and 1997 she was a teacher at Colegio Nuestra Señora de la Consolación, of the Congregation, in Bogotá and Cali. At the same school she was Coordinator of educational pastoral care and Coordinator of a group of teachers from 1998 to 2003.

From 2003 to 2017 she has exercised various tasks in the provincial and general government of the Congregation, including that of provincial superior and vicar general.
