The year 2024 will be dedicated in the Order of Augustinian Recollects to reflect on “the little things, the day-to-day things that affect us directly, the things that we do at home”. In the document presenting the theme, the Prior General, Br. Miguel Ángel Hernández, specifies that “we have the feeling that we take many things for granted or for being known, and we think that it would not be bad to go back over them”. We want to take into account,” he says. the so-called domestic virtues, which are those that we must exercise on a daily basis in our communities and in our apostolates: tolerance, acceptance of others, respect, cordiality, good humor, generosity, responsibility, honesty, sincerity, patience, etc., in short, virtues that help us to be better and to grow as persons”.. The motto for the year 2024 is taken from a phrase of St. Augustine, from Sermon 69: “Do you aspire to great things? Begin with the least. A smaller version is also proposed: “Do you aspire to the big? Start small”. Friar Miguel Angel Hernandez recalls the words of Pope Francis: “We must change the world with the little things of every day, with generosity, with sharing, with listening to others“. Pope Francis encourages us to create attitudes of brotherhood, sharing, listening and being generous in our dealings with others. Salvation does not come from earthly powers, but from the simplicity and littleness of the things of God. Schools and parishes in Mexico, Spain, Venezuela, the USA and the Dominican Republic were the first to put the year’s theme into practice, as they begin their pastoral activities in September. The EDUCAR network has developed materials based on the motto available in the resources section of its website. For the Order, this motto also has deep historical and biblical roots. God uses the small to accomplish great things: from the faith of an old man and his barren wife to the faith of “the least of all people”. Even Jesus teaches us that being faithful in small things is a major undertaking. By embracing this motto, the Order of Augustinian Recollects seeks to foster an attitude of joy and commitment in every action undertaken. As St. Augustine said: “Whatever you do, do it with joy, because then we do good and we do it well”. The year 2024 will be an occasion to reflect, grow and seek greatness through the smallest things. The Order of Augustinian Recollects invites us to join them in this exciting journey of personal transformation and global entrepreneurship.
