An opportunity to deepen our apostolic mission identity

Representatives of the four provinces of the Order met from February 26 to March 2, 2024 to reflect on the future of the apostolic mission. Augustinian Recollect.

During the meeting, held at the General Curia of the Order in Rome, various topics were discussed, from the revision of documents such as the Augustinian Recollect Ideology of Pastoral Ministry to the Guidelines for the Augustinian Recollect Missionary Apostolate. In addition, various challenges have arisen, both in terms of pastoral work in the parishes and in the mission territories.

Fr. Rene VillalinoThe representative of the Province of St. Ezekiel Moreno, emphasized the importance of strengthening the Augustinian Recollect identity among religious and lay people. About the meeting, he said that it was a great opportunity to share different experiences and learn from each other: This exchange of experiences has served to learn from the successes and strategies of others has been very enriching. It has also helped us to identify areas that require more attention, so that we can improve and take action.

For its part, Fr. Ismael XurucGeneral Councilor and President of the General Secretariat of the Missionary and Ministerial Apostolate, pointed out that the essence of the community is the foundation of the Augustinian Recollect charism: Our life, our charism, is based on community. By authentically living our charism, we bear witness wherever we are.

The meeting was not only a space for reflection and discussion, but also for taking concrete steps for the future. In fact, the importance of overcoming obstacles and working together to achieve the missionary objectives of the Order has been emphasized. And the provinces are expected to give priority support to the preparation of the Year of the Missions, scheduled for 2026, while continuing to strengthen Augustinian Recollect missionary identity and work throughout the world.
