Prior General in Kenya and Sierra Leone

From March 24 to April 7, the Prior General will visit the African countries where the Augustinian Recollect Family is present: Kenya and Sierra Leone.

The program will begin in the communities of the Augustinian Recollect nuns of Lodwar and Wote (Kenya), with whom the Prior General will share Holy Week. Lodwar is the capital of Turkana County, the largest town in northwestern Kenya. It is located west of Lake Turkana and east of the Loima Hills. Wote is closer to Nairobi, about two hours by road. The Lodwar monastery belongs to the Mexican Federation of Nuns and the Wote monastery belongs to the Spanish Federation of Nuns. For several years, religious from the General Curia in Rome have been assisting these communities with formation days and spiritual exercises. The Prior General wanted to share this important week of the liturgical year with both communities.

Beginning April 1, during the first week of Easter, the Prior General will visit the Augustinian Recollect communities in Sierra Leone: Kamabai and Kamalo. There he is scheduled to meet with Msgr. Bob John H. Koroma, Bishop of Makeni, and with the community’s tribal leaders, known as Paramount Chief and Mommy Queen.

In Kamakwie, Fr. Miguel Angel Hernandez will attend the blessing at St. Mary’s Church. He will meet with catechists and teachers in Kamafera Village, Kamakitha village and Bumban Village. Another important event will be the visit to schools that are part of ARCORES international projects.

Later, in the community of Kamalo, the Prior General will participate in a celebration of baptisms and visit more educational and human promotion projects promoted by ARCORES in the area. During this visit, the Prior General will be accompanied by Br. Antonio Carrón, general counsel and president of the EDUCAR Network.
