The Prior General is visiting the African countries where the Augustinian Recollect Family is present. The journey began in Kenya on March 24, 2024. In this country, Fr. Miguel Angel Hernandez lived Holy Week with the communities of Augustinian Recollect nuns of Lodwar and Wote.
The first is the most populated locality in northwestern Kenya and belongs to the Federation of Augustinian Recollect Nuns of Mexico. It is curious that, during his visit, he bid farewell to the sisters in the rain, as this phenomenon has not occurred since November 2023. The Prior General thanked them for being the presence of God, the Church and the Order in these warm and welcoming Turkana lands.
Wote, on the other hand, is closer to Nairobi, about two hours by road. The Monastery of Our Lady of Consolation is part of the Federation of Augustinian Recollect Nuns of Spain. There, the bishop of the diocese, Msgr. Paul Kariuki Njiru, greeted Fr. Michelangelo at the end of the Chrism Mass and wished him a happy stay in Kenya.
The Prior General presided at the Mass of the Lord’s Supper in the aforementioned Monastery of Our Lady of Consolation.
During this second visit, the Prior General expressed his deep joy at celebrating the week of the Passion of Our Lord in contact with the Christians who live their faith in Africa, the continent where St. Augustine was born seventeen centuries ago. During these first few days, he noted that the Christian faith is still very much alive in African hearts.
Beginning tomorrow, April 1, 2024, during the first week of Easter, the Prior General will visit the Augustinian Recollect communities in Sierra Leone, returning to Rome on the 7th.
