On June 12, 2018, seven Augustinian Recollect nuns from Mexico began the experience of the community of the Monastery of Our Lady of Candelaria in Bogota.
Over the years the community has been consolidating a project that has already begun to bear its first fruits with several young Colombian women who began their formation process in the monastery.
Since their arrival in Bogota, the Augustinian Recollect Nuns have proposed their presence as a way to spread the charism of the Order from the contemplative dimension.
To this end, in addition to their daily dynamics of prayer, they have designed meetings for young people in which they offer the opportunity to share their life and deepen their personal encounter with God.
In addition, the community works in a sewing workshop, production of hosts for mass and baking.
The building of the Monasterio Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria is a building that has long been linked to the Augustinian Recollect family.
It was formerly the former novitiate house of the Augustinian Recollect Missionary Sisters (MAR) in Suba.
“We ask for prayers that this new project may God bless it and be realized according to His most holy will.”
The first Augustinian Recollect Sisters who visited Bogota to begin the foundation project came from the Monastery of Our Lady of Good Counsel in Cuernavaca (Morelos, Mexico). “Like Abraham, God invites me to leave the land, my dear family and community to go and establish our Augustinian Recollect contemplative life, to help with our prayer and sacrifice the whole Church, especially our Order”, said Sister Heriberta Rosas Mena, one of the seven foundresses. “We ask for prayers so that this new project may be blessed by God and may be realized according to his most holy will.”
