Meeting of former ForSOAR seminarians in Boracay (Philippines)

From the 22nd to the 24th of November, the paradisiacal island of Boracay became the scene of the last encounter of the former Augustinian Recollect seminarians, known as ForSOAR (Former Seminarians OAR). This event, which gathered 106 participants, reaffirmed the bonds of fraternity under the motto “ForSOAR and Augustinian Recollects: an adventure of souls and hearts united by love”, inspired by the words of the Prior General, Fr. Miguel Angel Hernandez Dominguez, in his last visit to the Philippines.

The meeting, organized by the Panay-Guimaras Chapter group with 38 active members led by Judge Nelson Bartólome, was attended by 86 members of ForSOAR, family members and nine priests (six Recollects and three ex-Recollects). The meeting stood out for its atmosphere of closeness and friendship, where the motto “united by love” was made palpable through effusive embraces and moments of shared prayer.

The first day began with a concelebrated Mass presided over by Friar Leander Barrot, in charge of the Secretariat of Ongoing Formation, Charism and Spirituality of the Province of St. Ezekiel Moreno. During the homily, the important role of the ForSOAR as co-missionaries of the Order in its evangelizing work was highlighted, underlining the maxim “A Recollect will always be a Recollect”. The day culminated with a festive dinner with the traditional Filipino “litson” (lechon) and San Miguel beer, which originated in the Order.

Nicolas Rendon, pioneer of the ForSOAR in Baguio (1967) and retired priest of the Diocese of Antique. Tony Limchaypo, Vice President of the University of San Jose Recollects in Cebu and spiritual advisor of ForSOAR in Visayas, offered words of inspiration. Richard P. Burgos, National Director of ForSOAR, presented the current status and future prospects of the organization.

The highlight of the day was the talk of Fr. Javier Monroy, General Councilor of the Order on the CEAR (Center of Augustinian Recollect Spirituality), with the interpretation of Rehuel Estonilo. In the afternoon, Fr. Tagoy discussed the initiatives of ARCORES (Augustinian Recollect International Solidarity Network), highlighting its impact in various international missions. Dodoy Celiz, President of the University of St. Joseph Recollects, followed by an agape full of music, joy and fraternity.

In the words of one of the organizers, “this encounter in Boracay has been a success for the ForSOAR, reaffirming its mission to strengthen the bonds of fraternity among its members and to continue advancing in the journey towards holiness. The participants returned home with hearts full of gratitude and renewed commitment to be true co-missionaries of the Augustinian Recollect Augustinian Order.”
