The first edition of the course “Taking Care of Ourselves in the Contemplative Consecrated Life” comes to a close

On February 22, 2010, the ongoing formation course “Taking Care of Ourselves in Contemplative Consecrated Life” concluded. Taking Care of Ourselves in the Contemplative Consecrated Lifedirected to the communities of Augustinian Recollect contemplative nuns of the federations of Spain and Mexico.

This initiative, which began on December 7, had as its main objective to deepen the importance of personal, relational and community care within the contemplative consecrated life.

During these months, the communities of Augustinian Recollect nuns from Spain, Mexico, Kenya, Guatemala, Brazil and Colombia had the opportunity to reflect on various dimensions essential to their life and vocation, addressing key issues such as healthy aging in community life, the experience of affectivity in the different stages of consecrated life, the importance of self-care and the commitment of the Church to good treatment. In addition, fundamental aspects of Augustinian spirituality were explored, such as community relationships since St. Augustine and incarnated prayer as a pillar of consecrated life.

The course counted with the participation of specialized speakers who offered an integral approach to care in consecrated life. Carmen Montejo, Sr. Isabel García and the Augustinian Recollects Francisco Javier Monroy, Luciano Audisio and Enrique Eguiarte delved into topics such as power, authority and obedience, the personal and community life project, the importance of care from the biblical perspective, the need for self-care and the responsibility of the Church in the protection of the most vulnerable. Other fundamental themes, such as affectivity in consecrated life, were treated by Alicia Nicás and Águeda Nougués.

Sister Maria Ros, a religious of the Order of the Franciscan Conceptionists and representative of the Episcopal Commission for Consecrated Contemplative Life of the Spanish Episcopal Conference, gave an overview of the present and future of the feminine contemplative life. In addition, the Prior General, Friar Miguel Angel Hernandez, participated with a presentation on incarnational prayer as the foundation of consecrated life.

The course was coordinated by Carmen Montejo, Sr. Isabel García and Friar Antonio Carrón. It was developed as a program of the School of Formation In Imum Cordis, allowing access to reading materials, videos and complementary resources from its platform, which favored individual and community reflection. Each session was divided into two parts: an initial presentation by the speaker and a subsequent space for dialogue and questions, thus enriching the formative experience.

The closing day, coordinated by Fr. Antonio Carrón, was a space for gratitude and evaluation, in which the richness of the content addressed and the positive impact of the sessions on the daily life of the communities were highlighted. The active participation of the nuns and the quality of the speakers consolidated this experience as a valuable opportunity for the strengthening of the contemplative consecrated life.

With the completion of this course, the door is open to new formative initiatives that will continue to promote the integral growth of the communities of Augustinian Recollect nuns, reaffirming their commitment to self and community care within religious life.
