Fill your life with colors: an Easter to be reborn in hope

In this time of Lent that is coming to an end, Friar Willmer Moyetonesinvites us not to remain in the darkness of the road, but to fill it with colors, faith and hope. In the light of the sign of the rainbow and the promise of a living Easter, this message is a call to look at life with new eyes and to let the joy of the Risen Christ transform our history.

Color your path to Easter with faith and hope

We are well advanced in the Lenten season, already close to Easter. It seems like yesterday when we began this journey with the imposition of ashes, and yet, we are already going through the last steps of this time marked by the color purple. This color, which traditionally evokes sadness, mourning or death, should not define our Lenten experience. On the contrary, we are called to go through these days with joy, hope and a life full of colors, because something new is being born: a renewed life for humanity.

Our pilgrimage towards God is not covered with rose petals; it has gray days and also clear days. It all depends on the state of our faith and hope. If one day we wake up sad because of any circumstance, those who live with hope do not see it as a dark day, but as a new opportunity. God, who gave us the rainbow as a sign of covenant, reminds us that he did not come to destroy us, but to save us. Therefore, let us fill life with color, trusting in that promise: there will be no more floods to drown our history.

Our pilgrimage to God is not covered with rose petals; it has gray days as well as clear days.

Lent, year after year, is that gift that the Church offers us to learn to color our existence. It is a time of conversion, but also of renewal. An opportunity to see beyond the purple, to intuit on the horizon the colors of a new life that is approaching, even if it has not yet sprouted completely.

We have all gone through – and will go through – dark moments in our spiritual journey. But we also have the capacity, the help of God and the certainty that we are loved. We can choose the colors with which to paint our story: the color of forgiveness, reconciliation, joy, surrender, service, hope.

There is still time!

Perhaps these days of Lent have passed without us putting color in our lives, but there is still time! It is time to do so, to kindle the light of the approaching Easter. Christ is alive, and he is in our midst, illuminating our steps and renewing our joy.

Let us not let another opportunity pass us by. Let us live this time as what it really is: a favorable time, a time of salvation. Hope is the art of overcoming and transforming difficulties. Let us not fall into victimhood or pessimism. Let us change the lenses through which we look at the world – or better yet, let us take off the ones that are already fogged – and let us look ahead with new eyes. Something new is coming.

Let’s get ready to joyfully celebrate a colorful Easter! For all is not lost. There is a new humanity in the making. There is new life awaiting us.
