“God wanted to show off here”: gratitude and hope of the Prior General on his visit to Santa Fe

On April 10, the Prior General, Fr. Miguel Angel Hernandez, arrived in Santa Fe to continue his visit of renewal in Argentina. In this city, the heart of an Augustinian Recollect presence full of history and life, are located the Parish of St. Joseph, the elementary school Niño Jesus and the secondary school San Ezequiel Moreno.

Wednesday afternoon passed in a calm and fraternal atmosphere. Fr. Miguel Angel shared moments of encounter with the local religious community, preparing spiritually for the Eucharist that was celebrated at 7:00 pm in the parish church. This Mass marked the formal beginning of the visit, marked from the first moment by closeness and shared joy.

Thursday began with the recitation of Lauds, setting a tone of prayer and community. In his opening remarks, the Prior General encouraged everyone to live this time as “a time of grace,” an opportunity to “revitalize community life and experience God’s passing in our midst.”

The first meeting of the day was with the students of the school, who, full of enthusiasm, welcomed Friar Miguel Ángel with songs and spontaneous questions. Later, in an open dialogue with the teaching staff, the Prior General listened attentively to the experiences and challenges of the educational team. In his meeting with the management team, he deepened on the educational mission of the schools, highlighting the importance of sowing the Augustinian charism in the heart of each stage of life.

During the afternoon, he also met with the students of the other school shift, giving them words of closeness and encouragement. In the evening, he celebrated the Eucharist again and then shared a fruitful space with the Parish Pastoral Council (CoPaPa), where they discussed ways of renewal and mission in the parish.

Friday the 12th was an intense day, rich in gestures and meaningful encounters. After celebrating morning Mass, Friar Miguel Angel shared breakfast with the guides of the “Rio de Vida” group, who accompany the young people on their journey of faith. Later, he participated in an emotional meeting with all the boys and girls of this formative stage.

One of the most touching moments was the visit to the picnic area that ARCORES supports in a poor neighborhood. There, between a glass of milk and catechesis, the Prior General was able to see firsthand the generous dedication of those who work for the smallest and most vulnerable.

The afternoon continued with the JAR (Augustinian Recollect Youth) groups of the Milan and Casiciaco stages. Miguel Angel met first with the guides and then with all the members of these youth groups. It was a time of mutual listening and celebration of the shared charism. Later, he met with the members of ARA (Augustinian Recollect Adults), who gave testimony of how the Augustinian Recollect spirit is incarnated in adult life, whether in marriages or in communities of committed adults.

The day ended with a fraternal meeting with the JAR team and the Secular Fraternity. In an atmosphere of community and gratitude, they shared experiences and the joy of being part of a great spiritual family.

“It has been three intense and sublime days in Santa Fe. A true immersion in the work that is done from the Augustinian Recollect charism in all the stages of life”, expressed Fr.

“This soil has something special… I don’t know if it is because Blessed Deogracias Palacios walked on it or because here God wanted to ‘show off’ and give fruitfulness to the work of so many friars who passed through here. But I have no doubt that God has entrusted us with something special, a true gift, and I thank the Lord for it”.

Finally, on Sunday the 13th, with the celebration of the Eucharist of Palm Sunday and the recitation of Vespers, this fraternal visit was brought to a close. A visit that has left deep traces in the community of Santa Fe and has renewed the missionary and spiritual impulse of all those who participate in the Augustinian Recollect life in this beloved land.
