The Trinity: One and Triune God dwelling within us

Mario Alberto Molina, O.A.R., Archbishop Emeritus of the Archdiocese of Los Altos, Quetzaltenango – Totonicapán, offers us on this Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity a profound meditation on the central mystery of the Christian faith: one God in three persons, who acts in creation, in history and in each one of us for our salvation.

A feast to confess the heart of our faith

The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity was instituted in the fourteenth century to proclaim clearly who is the God in whom we believe. It is not a theological abstraction, but a review of the saving works of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, expressed in the Creed and carried out on our behalf.

Eternal wisdom that became flesh

The first reading, taken from the book of Proverbs, presents Wisdom personified, who from all eternity is at God’s side and acts as the architect of creation. We Christians have recognized in this Wisdom the Eternal Son of the Fathermediator of creation, incarnate to save us.

The psalm responds with wonder, “What is man that thou art mindful of him?” In an immense universe, God has set his gaze upon us and has given us the gift of his love, even to the point of giving us his Son and his Spirit.

Justified by faith, saved by grace

St. Paul, in his letter to the Romans, assures us that salvation is a free gift of God. Thanks to faith in Jesus Christ, we have access to grace, hope of glory, and communion with the Trinity. Salvation is received by faith, celebrated in the sacraments and lived in fidelity to the moral law.

The Spirit guides us to the full truth

The Gospel contains the last of Jesus’ five promises about the Holy Spirit: “He will guide you to the fullness of truth. It is not just a matter of theoretical knowledge, but of access to God himself, towards whom the Spirit leads us, enlightening the mind and transforming the heart.

The Spirit configures us to Christ and directs us toward the fulfillment of the promises: the fullness of life in the glory of God..

A Trinitarian faith, a life in communion

Our faith is deeply Trinitarian Trinitarian.

  • We believe in God the Fathercreator and provident, origin and destiny of everything.

  • We believe in Jesus Christ, eternal Sontrue God and true man, redeemer of the world, risen and glorious.

  • We believe in the Holy SpiritLord and giver of life, who makes us children of God, dwells in the Church and transforms us interiorly.

The Trinity is not a theoretical formula, but a living reality. living reality that acts in us and introduces us already now into eternal life.

Let us give glory to the God who has revealed Himself to us.

This is our God: one God in three persons. We have come to know him by his works:

  • Father in Heaven,

  • Son among us,

  • Holy Spirit in us.

To Him be glory and worship forever and ever.
