The international solidarity network of the Augustinian Recollect family, ARCORES, is promoting the construction of new schools in Sierra Leone, benefiting more than 1,200 girls and boys. The communities of Kamaranka and Bamoi are today witnesses of how education transforms lives.
Two new schools change the destiny of hundreds of girls and boys
In the heart of Sierra Leone, in the rural communities of Kamaranka (Bombali district) and Bamoi (Northern Province), two primary schools were inaugurated for the benefit of more than 1,200 pupils. Joy, singing and traditional dances marked these ceremonies that reflect the transformative power of education. The Bamoi school was inaugurated on June 7 and the Kamaranka school on June 14.
The Kamaranka school was financed by the Diputación de Zaragoza, the Roviralta Foundation and ARCORES Spain. The Bamoi school was supported by the Navarra Federation of Municipalities and Councils and ARCORES Spain. Both works have been carried out in collaboration with the Augustinian Recollects – Caritas Makeni and are part of the global commitment of the EDUCAR Network for quality education in the most needy areas.
Kamaranka: educating with dignity and equity
The old Kamaranka school, built in 1953, did not offer the necessary conditions to ensure an adequate learning environment. Today, thanks to this new project, students have six safe, inclusive and accessible classrooms, where girls and boys share the same opportunities.
The parity of places, the hiring of female professors under equal conditions and the integration of students with disabilities are hallmarks of this project aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 4 and 5).
Bamoi: a school born from the dream of a community
In Bamoi, an emotional ceremony celebrated the inauguration of another Augustinian Recollect school. Thanks to the joint effort of ARCORES Spain, Caritas Makeni and the Municipal Cooperation Fund of Navarra, more than 600 girls and boys will be able to have access to an education that is much more than teaching: it is a tool for personal, social and spiritual growth.
The school in Bamoi represents a before and after in the history of this rural community. The excitement and gratitude of the families reflect the longing for a better future that is already beginning to be built in the classrooms.
EDUCAR Network: educating in a network, transforming with the Gospel
These projects are part of the EDUCAR Network, the educational platform of the Augustinian Recollect family. A network that promotes the transformation of society from the school, with the heart set on the Gospel.
Each new school is a seed of hope that germinates in good soil. The joint work between ARCORES, local institutions, families and teachers makes possible a transformative, networked education that looks to the future with confidence.
With our hearts set on the mission
“Each new school strengthens the shared dream of our missions and transformative education,” ARCORES emphasizes. It is not just about building walls, but about opening doors to knowledge, development and the dignity of each person.
Kamaranka and Bamoi are today living signs of the commitment of the Augustinian Recollect family with the most vulnerable communities. Places where to educate is to love, and where the Gospel becomes life among notebooks, desks and smiles.
