Augustinian Recollects celebrate the election of the new Prior General of the Order of St. Augustine

The Order of Saint Augustine has elected Friar Joseph Farrell as its new Prior General. From the Augustinian Recollect family, we unite with joy and prayer to this significant moment for the entire Augustinian family.

A new Prior General for the Order of St. Augustine

Last September 3, the Order of St. Augustine officially announced the election of its new Prior General: Friar Joseph Farrell, OSA. His appointment marks the beginning of a new era for the great Augustinian family spread throughout the world.

From the Order of Augustinian Recollects, we receive this news with great hope and gratitude. As part of the same common root, we share the mission of proclaiming the Gospel with one heart and one soul directed towards God.

Who is Friar Joseph Farrell?

Joseph Farrell was born in the United States and belongs to the Province of St. Thomas of Villanova. Province of St. Thomas of Villanova of the Order of St. Augustine. Throughout his religious life he has performed multiple services of government and animation, both locally and internationally.

Until today Vicar General of the Order and Assistant General for North America, he takes the seal of Friar Alejandro Moral Anton, OSA, and accepts his new position at the head of the Order. His experience has given him a broad and universal vision of the Order, always animated by the desire to serve the Church and to promote unity and the Augustinian charism.

Recognized for his closeness, his ability to listen and his deep love for St. Augustine, Friar Joseph now assumes the task of guiding the Order in this new chapter of its history.

United as an Augustinian family

This event is a reminder of the profound communion that exists among the branches of the great Augustinian family. The bonds of prayer, mission and common charism are a richness that strengthens the Church and encourages us to continue walking together in fidelity to the Gospel.

We Augustinian Recollects unite in prayer for Friar Joseph Farrell, asking the Holy Spirit to guide him in this new mission at the service of the Order and the whole Church.
