The Prior General of the Augustinian Recollects began this September 15 the visit of renewal to the communities of Spain in Monteagudo, Navarra. A historic house, cradle of the Recollection and seat of the European novitiate, becomes the starting point of an itinerary that seeks to renew the heart of the religious in Spain. renew the hearts of the religious and strengthen the life of the Augustinian Recollect family.
A house that is the cradle of the Recollection, starting point of a hopeful itinerary
The Prior General leaves Rome and the hustle and bustle of the Jubilee to begin his renewal visit to Spain. This September 15, the first stage took him to Monteagudo, Navarra, a house full of history and significance: the novitiate of Europe and one of the cradles of the Augustinian Recollection, as well as the community in which he himself was vice-master of novices.
“We have begun the renewal visit to the communities of Spain, starting with the novitiate of Monteagudo. From here we will go to the Casa San José in Madrid, which depends on the General Curia and is the headquarters of ARCORES. And then we will go down to Chiclana de la Frontera and we will go up through the communities of Andalusia and Granada. “He explained at the beginning of the itinerary .
The visit will tour communities in three provinces of the Order: St. Ezekiel Moreno, Our Lady of Candelaria and St. Thomas of Villanova.thus underlining the universal and fraternal dimension of this process.
A pause for Rome and the Jubilee of Consecrated Life
The itinerary will be interrupted for the Prior General to participate in Rome in the Jubilee of Consecrated Life, an ecclesial event that will bring together more than 200 religious men and women from different branches of the Augustinian Family. “It seems appropriate to interrupt the visitation to be present at this important moment in the life of the Order and in this Jubilee of the Church.“said the Prior General.
There he will meet with religious over 50 years of profession, young people in formation and Augustinian Recollect nuns from Mexico and Spain, thus reinforcing the sense of global communion of the Augustinian family.
Renewing the hearts of religious
The renewal visit is not just an administrative or formal meeting. It is, above all, a time of grace to renew the hearts of the religious, to return to the sources of our charismto return to the sources of our charism and to rediscover the passion of living in restlessness for Christ. In each community we seek to listen, encourage and animate, so that the fraternal life and mission of the Order may continue to be a living witness in the world.
Monteagudo, with its history of formation and dedication, is a symbol of what this visit wants to awaken: creative fidelity to the Gospel and the joy of knowing that we are called to live and proclaim the Augustinian Recollect charism.
A day before the beginning of the visitation, the Prior General shared on his social networks a close and hopeful message:
Tomorrow begins the renewal visit to Spain.
I hope to meet again with friars, nuns, missionaries, fraternities, JAR and lay people who give life to this family.
Let’s listen to each other, look each other in the eyes… and renew together the call#AnnouncedChrist.– Miguel Ángel Hernández (@PriorGeneralOAR) September 14, 2025
In the coming days, the communities that will receive the Prior General will be part of this journey of renewal and hope. The Augustinian Recollect family is invited to live it united in prayer, with one heart directed towards God.
