The island of Cebu, the heart of the Church in the Philippines, suffered serious damage: more than
70 people dead
hundreds of people injured, temples destroyed and thousands of families displaced.
Centuries-old churches collapsed, rural communities were cut off, and many affected areas are still waiting for help. The local Church, with the support of international networks, immediately mobilized to respond to this emergency situation.

The Philippine Church, wounded but standing upright
Despite the suffering, the ecclesial communities of Cebu have shown themselves to be resilient. With damaged churches but firm hearts, they have been able to organize soup kitchens, shelters and prayer chains. The Recollect religious present in the country have accompanied this work with generosity and witness.
