At the age of thirty Gratia became a Brother in an Observant monastery near Padua in 1468. He was noted for his humility, his service of the community as a gardener and his deep Eucharistic devotion. He died on 8th November, 1508 in a monastery near Venice to which he had been transferred. His remains were later returned to his native Muo where they are venerated in the parish church. His cult was confirmed by Pope Leo XIII in 1889.
Blessed Gratia of Kotor, religious
Gratia was born in 1438 in the village of Muo near Cattaro, now Kotor, on the Adriatic coast in southwest Montenegro. It was natural for him to become a sailor as it was for him to visit Venice, then an important sea power and in control of Kotor since1420. On visiting the Observant Augustinian church in Venice Gratia heard a sermon which deeply moved him and made him decide to enter the Religious Life. The preacher was the distinguished Simon of Camerino, a leader of the Observant movement which was particularly strong at the time among Italian Augustinians.
