What is a torrent? It is like the flow of human mortality. The course of mortals is like the torrent, it is formed from the drops of rain, it grows and overflows, it rumbles as it runs, it falls and rushes, thus slowing down at the end of course. Men are born, they live, they die; while some die, others are born, and, at the disappearance of some, new others appear; they succeed, they get nearer, they go and do not remain. What thing is permanent here? What stream of rain that is not lost in the abyss?
