De Trinitate X, 5, 7.
Quote 06 4
Why is it given to the soul to know itself? I believe that this is so in order that the soul may reflect upon itself and live according to its nature which is to submit itself to the One to Whom it ought to submit itself having mastery over the things which ought to be under the soul’s command. In short, in order that it obey Him who rules and commands that which ought to be ruled by it.
