Similarly, Adam descended and fell into the hands of thieves, because we all are Adam. The Priest passed by and paid no attention; the Levite passed by and paid no attention because the Law could not heal. The Samaritan, passing by, did not despise us; he cured us, he carried us in himself; in his flesh he brought us to the inn, i.e., to the Church, and gave to the inn keeper two denarii: the love of God and the love of neighbor.
