FORMATION

Bishop Briseño entered the “St. Pius X Seminary “of the Augustinian Recollects in Querétaro, México, at 18 years of age. After one year, he was transferred to Spain where he began his novitiate year in Monteagudo, Navarra, and, at the end of this year, made his profession of simple vows on August 16, 1980. From Monteagudo, he was transferred to Marcilla, Navarra, in order to complete his studies of philosophy and theology. He obtained a bachelor´s degree in theology from the University of Navarra. In Marcilla, committed him perpetually to religious life making solemn profession on October 13, 1985. He was ordained deacon that same year and to the priesthood in Querétaro on September 27, 1986.

ASSIGMENTS

His first assignment as a priest was to serve as parish vicar in Ciudad Madera, Cihuahua, the seat of the prelacy. Two years later, he was assigned to Querétero where he served as director of vocations for 6 years. In 1994, he was sent to Rome where he obtained a licentiate in Spiritual Theology from the Gregorian University. In 1996, he returned to México to exercise his ministry, first, at the parish of St. Monica and, then, as prior and pastor of Hospitales. He held the office of councilor for the vicariate of México and president of the Secretariat of Spirituality (1997-2003). Beginning in 2003, he assumed the offices of prior of the community at Querétaro and director of the college of Fray Luis de León. In 2006, he was named Auxiliary Bishop of México. The Episcopal ordination took place in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe on June 17, 2006. Cardinal Norberto Rivera Carrera, Archbishop Primate of México presided at the ceremony accompanied by eight auxiliary bishops. He assumed his office as the responsible vicar for the Primary Vicariate of the Archdiocese of México on June 29, 2006.
