FORMATION

He entered the apostolic seminary of Logroño and made his novitiate in San Millán de la Cogolla where he made first profession of vows on the 26th of August of 1974. He was ordained priest in Logroño on the 19th of July of 1980. He obtained the degree of bachelor in theology from the Pontifical University of Salamanca.

ASSIGNMENTS

His assignments have been the following: Salamanca, Seminary of St. Rita in Lima, parish of St. Rita, Arequipa, Huambos, Chota, and St. Mary Magdalene of Lima. The offices which he has held include director of formation, parish vicar, financial administrator of the delegation of Chota, apostolic administrator of the prelacy of Chota, prior and vicar general of the prelacy of Chota. He was named bishop of the Prelacy of Chota on the 17th of March, 2002, and was consecrated on the 5th of May of the same year. He was transferred to the Diocese of Cajamarca in the 12th of October, 2004.

DIOCESE

The Diocese of Cajamarca has an extension of 15, 333 square kilometers and a population of 844, 000 (804, 000 baptized). The territory is divided into 38 parishes. There are 39 diocesan priests, 8 religious and 165 sisters.
