On the 24th April 2001 John Paul ll solemnly recognized the miraculous character of a cure that took place in Salamanca 17th December 1888 through the intercession of Blessed Alonso de Orozco. It was the instantaneous cure of Fabia Castro, a 24 year old woman who 7 days before had become paralyzed after an accident in the home. With this cure the process of canonization went into its last stages. The Pope took the last steps and at the consistory of 26th February 2002 announced his canonization which took place on the 19th May of that same year in a solemn ceremony celebrated in St. Peter’s Square by John Paul ll.
