The Department of Philosophy and Theology is directed by the Augustinian Recollect Antonio Abecia Valencia, who, with the religious administrators of Uniagustiniana, formed the pool of teachers, composed of friars, diocesan priests and lay professors, who specialized in Theology, Philosophy and Pedagogy.
In Theology, 21 students of whom 10 are Augustinian Recollects, started the academic semester. The remaining eleven come from the Diocese of Fontibon, fascinated by the Augustinian traces and trajectory of the Augustinian Recollects in the educational sector.
In Philosophy, 25 students have enrolled coming from different religious communities.
Transfer
Among the most important reasons which moved for the transfer of the house of formation from Suba to this, are the continuous going back and forth of the young friars from the Theologate to the campus of the University, and the consequent cutting of time dedicated to formation and apostolate.
And because of this, and with the spirit of safeguarding the life of prayer and the communitarian and formative ambience, the Provincial Administration, in agreement with the Formation Team of the Theologate, decided to transfer the seat of this house to the urban complex in Tagaste, making the distance short, strengthening the presence of more religious in the University and taking advantage of the time to study to the maximum.
On January 28, the communities of the Province of Our Lady of Candelaria (Colombia and Chile) were invited to the inauguration of this new Major Seminary. The Theologate occupies the outbuilding of the old retreat house and offers favorable space for formation of the young Augustinian Recollects in prayer, study and common fraternal life. The students will have a great opportunity of pastoral work in the Colegio Agustiniano Tagaste, the Parish of Saint Augustine and the Universidad Agustiniana.
