The center of education and restoration of the monastery of Yuso has favored the learning and understanding of the restoration of this historic place with the inspiring and interactive focus for the benefit of all generations, especially of the younger ones. According to the evaluation of the jury: “The Jury praises the excellent use of the restoration of a place which is world heritage as an educational instrument to reach a very extended public and to acquire support for the protection of a historical patrimony. Through this interactive focus it has helped to inculcate among the youth a sense of propriety and pride”.
Between 2007 and 2009 a total of 39 workshops were conducted in the Augustinian Recollect monastery on the patrimony of San Millán de la Cogolla in La Rioja (Spain). The center of education created for this purpose has allowed that more than 3,500 school children of the region understand the process of restoration of the monument in the site itself.
This project has inaugurated a model of awareness that is open to the society in national level. Taking opportunity of this learning, compromises and the advantage being offered through this idea of restoration, the basis for collaboration has been established between the formal education and one of the places declared by the Unesco as patrimony of the humanity
The 27 awardees were chosen among the 140 projects from 31 countries. The final selection was made through a jury composed of independent experts throughout Europe.
“Europa Nostra” is the voice of cultural patrimony of Europe. It convenes and represents 250 non governmental organizations, 150 associations and more than 1,500 individual members coming from more than 50 countries who have pledged to safeguard the cultural patrimony and sceneries of Europe. This coming June 10 in Amsterdam (Holland) the 27 awardees of this edition will receive its prize from the hands of Androulla Vassiliou, the European Commissary of Education and Culture,
