Prior General visits mission in Sierra Leone

Friar Miguel Angel Hernandez will visit the missionary communities of Kamabai and Kamalo in Sierra Leone from April 26 to May 3.

The Prior General will make a fraternal visit to the Augustinian Recollect communities of Sierra Leone from April 26 to May 3. Friar Miguel Angel Hernandez will be present in the missions of Kamabai and Kamalo to accompany the missionaries and to know first hand their work with the people.

The first stop of his trip will be Kamabai. There he will visit the school run by the Augustinian Recollects in the Kabake neighborhood and the Santo Tomas Kamabai Secondary School, where he will meet with young people and teachers. He will also visit the solar project that they are carrying out together with the International Solidarity Network ARCORES and will preside the Eucharist in the Kagbabarantan Village, where he will baptize several people.

In the following days, the Prior General will be in Kamalo. Here he will have the opportunity to preside at the Sunday Eucharist and impart the sacrament of baptism to several members of the Mahindi community. He will also dialogue with the leaders of Kamalo, as well as with teachers, catechists, youth and lay collaborators of the Kamalo mission. Finally, he will bless a school in Kagbungbor.

Miguel Angel Hernandez will meet, on the first day of his visit, with the Bishop of Makeni, Bishop Natale Paganelli, and the Bishop-elect of Makeni, Bishop Bob John Hassan Koroma.

The Augustinian Recollects have been present in Sierra Leone since December 29, 1996. At present there are two missions, in Kamabai and Kamalo, managed by religious of the Province of St. Ezekiel Moreno. It has a large number of schools, as well as chapels and social projects.

The last visit of the Prior General of the Order to Sierra Leone was in November 2019. The then Prior General, Miguel Miro, shared a week with the missionaries and the communities of Kamabai and Kamalo.
