The General Secretariat for Vocation Ministry of the Order presents the materials for Vocation Week 2024. In the introduction to the materials, it is emphasized that the objective of these tools is to be useful for vocation animation in local communities.
In motivating this new Vocation Week, the head of the Secretariat, Fr. Fabián Martín, recalls that “The path that we human beings travel to reach fulfillment is, most of the time, an effort of self-fulfillment. Then, trusting in our own strength, we inflate ourselves with pride and rush into vain things in search of happiness. In the end, emptiness, frustration, impotence, much anger and great sadness. It could be said that we have a hard time convincing ourselves of the value of humility, which, in the end, is the value that connects us with our own human condition.”
To celebrate Vocation Week 2024, also called“vocation week,” vocation prayers and petitions, a vocation catechesis, a lectio divina based on Jeremiah’s vocation, a vocation holy hour, a vocation rosary and an outline for a vocational fellowship with young people are offered. There is also a reflection on St. Augustine and the little things. Lastly, there is an approach to the pastoral care of vocations both for the youth of the Augustinian Recollect Recollect Augustinian Recollect Youth and for the members of the Secular Augustinian Recollect Fraternities.
Taking as a reference the Order’s motto for the year 2024, “Do you aspire to great things? Start with the smallest ones.” (St. Augustine, Sermon 69,2), the aim is to recover the value of the little things in the Christian human life, since the care of the simple things of every day is the condition of possibility of the particular vocation and mission. In this sense, the search for one’s vocation is a tremendous exercise in humility.
Although these materials are not proposed for use on a specific date, the Secretariat suggests that they be used around the Feast of the Conversion of St. Augustine, or also the week prior to the Ecclesial Day of Prayer for Vocations, which is celebrated on the fourth Sunday of Easter or Good Shepherd Sunday.
The materials are available in Spanish and Portuguese in the “Recursos para jóvenes inquietos” section of the website www.inquietar.com.
